Custom software, done well

Our focus at Custom Business Software is to ensure that you get a return on your investment. Imagine completing processes faster and with higher quality, gaining organisational knowledge and making more informed, data-driven business decisions.

Why custom business software?
First, "Why not off-the-shelf software?" Let's answer the question. Off-the-shelf software addresses a part of business operations where the proponent talks about 'best-of-breed' features and processes. This means 'running the business our way'. In effect, when you choose off-the-shelf software, you are running your business according to a set of template processes and forms. You would be running your business exactly the same way as your competitors. This is no way to gain a competitive advantage. Another problem with off-the-shelf software is that you end up with multiple systems to cover your entire business. These systems do not work well together, leading to a lot of manual processing that is error-prone and time-consuming. They also do not allow for truly informed business decisions to be made, which can be achieved by looking at all the data together in one place.
HUB IT's bespoke business software can provide your business with as much functionality as you need. It integrates with other systems and brings information together to reduce manual work and improve business decision-making. It can be extended and modified to suit your business. It can be used to capture organisational knowledge, guide new users through complex processes and reduce risk to key personnel. In short, bespoke software is initially expensive, but if you can find a supplier that is skilled not only in development, but also in business process improvement and project management, you can reap benefits many times over. HUB IT works with many sensible companies that want to stand out from their competitors. Why not make your business one of HUB IT's success stories?
Common business opportunities that
work well with custom
Integration of Spreadsheets and Access Databases.
Convert internal tools into web applications that can be used by all employees. Ensure consistency in processes and capture the knowledge of key personnel.
Workforce Scheduling and Mobility
Jobs are managed and assigned to workers based on skills/permits/availability. Workers can work on their mobile devices and report their status in real time.
Customer Portals
Provide customers with the authority to request work, participate in work, close/approve work and manage their accounts, all of which are linked directly to the core system.
Contract/Document Construction
Use the data from the customised system to pre-fill any documents you regularly produce, such as orders, quotations, quality reports and contracts.
Mapping, GPS and logistics
Real-time location data embedded in tailor-made systems provide visibility of labour and assets across locations, plan efficient use of labour and optimise logistics.
Complex Process Automation
The process knowledge of key personnel is recorded and the customised software guides inexperienced users step by step through the process. Risks to key personnel are minimised and process efficiency and quality are maximised.
Quality Management Systems
Build processes into the software and monitor quality checkpoints. Introduce a sign-off step and generate quality control reports without additional work.
Systems Integration
Send timesheets, job costing and order/inventory data directly to your accounting system; integrate with HR and countless other business systems and convert disparate data into business intelligence.
Business Intelligence and Analytics
Integrate operational and financial data to monitor key performance indicators in real time, identify trends and take informed action.
Our process
One of the keys to HUB IT's success is having the skills in-house to take a plan-driven (waterfall) or feedback-driven (agile) approach to projects. Each approach has its advantages and disadvantages and we can recommend the right one for you.
The waterfall method is an engineering practice that involves rigorous design and planning up front. Consider the construction of a bridge. The requirements are well understood upfront and the contractor produces plans and estimates to ensure the outcome. However, the decision to add a lane cannot be made in the middle of the project.
Many workshops, designs and plans are carried out upfront. Risks are identified and addressed at an early stage. Planning and results can be estimated and costs and timelines are determined (some risks are borne by HUB IT). Inflexible, as significant investment in design and planning is required. Works best when the requirements are known in advance and the ROI must be planned as part of the feasibility of the project. Not ideal when iterations are unknown (market driven features, hidden complexity, R&D).

We identify processes, information flows and business

decisions that are ready fordisruption. We workshop ideas

and determine whether successful outcome will generate a

return on investment (ROI).

We carry out preliminary work on a fee-based consultancy

basis. We take your advice and provide you with a quote

for a further project.

Once approved, the idea is incorporated into a detailed

design and project plan and risks are identified to

achieve ROI. Occasionally, a proof of concept or a test

interface with an external system may be required.

Before coding can begin, the design is agreed, risks are

assigned and a project plan is drafted.

We carry out initial testing on the agreed design,

test it in your organisation and make adjustments.

We also organise a separate team for testing to

ensure quality.

The waterfall model ensures that we have what we need

to build the software, and we will regularly report back

to you on its status and ask you questions. We will contact you

again when it is complete.

Customers can check their software against the

software we are asked to build to ensure it is

fit for purpose.

Your system is on a test server and can be tested

against all possible scenarios for your business.

The system is migrated to a professional-grade

hosted environment according to the customer's

specifications. In some cases, the system can be

deployed on the customer's in-house servers.

The software is 'live' and you realise the benefits

of the project.

Here are the real benefits of a new system.

Our support plans include extended warranties

and user support, as well as the ability to

continually modify and improve the software

to meet changing business needs.

We offer a range of support plans to maximise

the return on investment for your project.
